Brother Mike Mason is recovering well at home following a lengthy stay in hospital, and hopes to be back at the October meeting. He would like to thank fellow brothers for their concern and prayers. Despite Bro Mike’s absence, we went ahead with a recruitment drive at St Francis in Shelfield and three potential new members came forward. The next recruitment drive is planned for 20th & 21st Oct at St Mary of the Angels in Aldridge.
Brother Geoff is much better and is now back at home. Brother Len is still the same but coping well. We are considering planning some APC Meetings at Brothers houses to keep them involved in Council affairs.
Bro Steve has put Bro Ernie Northey in touch with Erin Doughty of Birmingham Catholic Youth Service to discuss any ways that we can work with them as part of our Provincial youth strategy and to discuss the Popes Caritas Youth award scheme.
The ‘Catholic Today’ has been sent an article and photographs regarding the visit of the Supreme Knight Ron Lynch to the sponsored walk around Sandwell Valley in support of St Marys Hospice. We also had a write up about the doing the walk in ‘The Harp’ via the Sandwell Irish Society. The Dinner/Dance for the presentation of the cheque to St. Mary’s Hospice will take place at St. Francis of Assisi, Handsworth on Saturday 17th November from 8pm.
A ‘Tea and Boxty’ fund raising function will be held at Holy Name Church Hall, Birmingham Road, Great Barr, B43 6LN on Saturday 15th September. This is in support of the National Action Project Aid to the Church in Need. Tickets for both of these functions are available from Brother Columba Conway Grand Knight of Council 223. Congratulations to Our Warden Brother Dennis Tunley and his wife Mary on their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.
Brother Steve Ferris is achieving good results in his work at the Great Barr Youth Group. Recruiting Drives will take place at: St. Francis of Assisi Shelfield on Saturday 8th September and Sunday 9th September.
